Bienvenue à Magix: Chapter 7: An Earthling at Alfea?

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

The time telling Flora, Musa and Tecna that I came from Earth, and how Stella and I had met, during the ride home had passed like a flash. We discretely slip inside the college, when a snappish voice surprises us:

"Do you have any idea what time it is?"

Griselda! And Faragonda at her side.

"We were crazy with worry," the headmistress gently explains. "Go to bed immediately. We'll talk about the rules again tomorrow morning."

My friends hurry by but Griselda holds me back by the sleeve of my shirt.

"Not so fast, Princess Varanda! Haven't you forgotten to tell us something?"

I lower my head. How did she know? Well, I will be relieved when everyone knows the truth.

"My name is Bloom and I am an Earthling."

Griselda gloats.

"Ha, ha! I knew it! You are not a princess. You tricked us!"

But the headmistress regards me with kindness.

"It's true. Nevertheless, this young girl cannot be but a magical creature! Otherwise the protection barrier would not have let her enter. Bloom, why did you hide your real name?"

"Miss, this entire thing was my idea."

I thank my friend with a smile but I prefer to explain it myself.

"I come from a little town on the planet Earth, called..."

Griselda shakes her head.

"From outside of the realm of Magix? That's impossible!"

Nonetheless, this time, I am telling the truth. With enthusiasm, I defend my presence at the college of fairies:

"I beg of you, don't send me back! All my life, I always wanted to be a fairy. And today, my dream is on the point of becoming true."

I had dared to speak from the bottom of my heart. My friends congratulate me with their eyes and beseech the headmistress in silence, who takes the time to reflect, while Griselda exaggerates my unforgivable lies.

I wait for the headmistress's verdict, with much more to fear than if I had risked being punished to do penal labour.

"In the heart of this young girl, there is a dream..." Faragonda starts. "A dream in which she believes with all her heart. She has proved that she is tenacious. And is that not a quality that every fairy should possess?"

"Yes, ma'am," the proctor reluctantly admits.*

"Get to bed quickly, young ladies," the headmistress concludes with a big smile.

Me, too? Then...I'm still a student at Alfea? My friends jump in joy and the relief envelops me. We hasten to our rooms, followed by Griselda and Faragonda, who talk about me. They had ignored that there had been fairies on the planet Earth. They had thought that they had disappeared centuries ago. Hence, they ask who am I.

What do you mean, who am I? It is already incredible that I am a fairy. Could there be another mystery? Well...I'll look for an answer another time. The emotions of the day have taken their toll on me already!
